Unit 10-1
What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep and hand back on later visits, which is how a site recognises a returning browser. Similar technologies do the same job by other means: localStorage and sessionStorage keep values in the browser, IndexedDB keeps a small database, a tracking pixel reports a page view by requesting a tiny image from another server, and fingerprinting identifies a browser from the combination of settings it reveals.

Not used. mutelocus.online sets no cookies of its own, of any kind, including preference or consent cookies.

Not used. Nothing is written to it, including the state of the checklists.

Not used. Nothing is written to it.

Not used. No database is created in your browser.

Tracking pixels

Not used. There are no images on this site that call another server, and there are no image files at all — every illustration is drawn with CSS or inline SVG.

Browser fingerprinting

Not used. Nothing here reads your fonts, canvas, screen configuration or device details to identify your browser.

Web fonts and third-party scripts

Not used. The site uses the typefaces already installed on your computer, and the only script is a short first-party file that runs the mobile menu and the print button. No analytics, advertising, social or video code is present.

Server access logs

Used. Our hosting provider records each request to the site, as described below. This is the only entry on this list that does anything.

Why there is no cookie banner

A consent banner exists to ask permission for cookies. There is nothing here to ask permission for, so a banner would be asking you to agree to something that does not happen — which would be untrue, and an irritation on top. If that ever changes, the change comes first: this page would be rewritten and a working consent mechanism would be in place before any cookie was set, not afterwards.

What does happen

Our hosting provider keeps an access log, as servers do. Each entry holds the IP address of the request, the date and time, the URL requested, the referring page if your browser sends one, and the user-agent string. Those logs are kept for 30 days and then deleted. They are used to keep the site available, to look into abuse, and to find faults. That is the entirety of what this site records about a visit, and the Privacy Policy describes it in the same terms.

The checklists are worth a separate sentence, because people expect them to behave like an app. They do not remember your ticks. The boxes beside each item are printed marks drawn in CSS, not controls, and there is no storage of any kind behind them. If you want to keep your progress, print the All checklists page and use a pencil.

After you follow an affiliate link

Some links in the course are paid affiliate links. Following one takes you off this site, and what happens next is not ours to control. The destination — the game's own website, and the affiliate network that operates the link — may set cookies or use similar technology on their own domains, typically to record which site referred you. Those cookies belong to them and are governed by their notices, which are worth reading on arrival. Haubergson Invest s.r.o. neither sets nor reads them.

Blocking and clearing cookies generally

Every current browser lets you block cookies, delete the ones you already have, and open a private window that discards them when it closes. The controls live in the browser's settings, usually under a heading such as privacy, content or site data, and they also clear localStorage and similar storage. Nothing you do there will affect this site, since it uses none of them — but it is worth knowing for the sites that do.
